The Internet has revolutionised the way we do business over the last 10 years.

In the UK there is a huge investment in the infrastructure that provides internet services.

New technologies are providing faster and more robust services that can cope with the increased demand we already require.

All this investment has now led to choice, and there are now more options than ever to help meet requirements.

Mason Infotech can provide services from all the major networks including Openreach, TalkTalk Business, Virgin, Kingston and others.

Business Internet

The internet is now as important as the physical road and rail infrastructure for most businesses and communities. It's vital for the delivery of email, cloud computing services, web based company information and in many cases, vital supply chain information.
Most traditional communications media including telephone, music, film, and television have been reshaped or redefined by the Internet, giving birth to Unified Communications and new services such as Private Virtual Networks (IPVPN's), Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), social networks, and now, enterprise networking.

The telecoms industry loves its' acronyms and TLA's! You'll here all sorts of confusing jargon mentioned;

FTTC, EFM, Ethernet, VPN, MPLS, the list is almost infinite. When we remove all the smoke and mirrors, there are basically four different types of internet access available to business. These are;

Broadband

is our next generation broadband, which is up to three times faster than traditional broadband! This is our standard service, offering up to 24Mb/s download speeds and offers a great entry level, next generation broadband service. This is delivered using the existing copper infrastructure, combined with next generation technology in the local telephone exchange.

This is normally delivered for around £30 per calendar month rental by all suppliers.

Fast Broadband

is our next generation fibre broadband product, offering up to four times the speed of current broadband services. This service is a true, next generation network product providing superfast speeds of up to 40Mb/s download and up to 10Mb/s upload. This service is delivered using a fibre connection to the local rodaside cabinet, before using traditional copper lines to your premises. Less copper means higher speeds for you.

This is normally delivered for around £40 per calendar month rental by all suppliers.

Assured Business Broadband

is our business grade, assured speed service. This product is perfect for businesses with a need for assured bandwidth for use with cloud or hosted services (like Salesforce.com or Google apps) and comes with guaranteed level of service  in the event of a fault. This service is provided using the next generation technology in the local telephone exchange combined with multiple copper lines to your premises from the local exchange.

This service also offers symmetrical download and upload speeds, which is ideal for sending and receiving documents and data at the rate your business needs. This service is offered in two alternatives,  offering a choice to fit your business, priced at around £ 200 per month for a lesser speed service and around £325 per month for the higher speed service. Although the speed quoted will not necessarily look any more impressive than fast broadband, the symetry and service levels offered make this a very robust and popular offering.

Direct Internet Access

Offers greater speed and reliability. Normally delivered over a fibre "bearer", you will be provided with a symmetrical service that will also offer a service level around the six hour mark for service restoration. If you rely on business critical applications, delivered over a smooth, fault free internet connection, Direct Internet Access is most likely the product for you. Available in most locations, the service can be delivered at a wide variety of bandwidth's from 2 megabits per second all the way up to 1 gigabit per second.  Pricing is on request for this service.

For many businesses with just one location and a few potential home or remote workers, the types of internet access mentioned, once properly secured with a decent firewall will most likely suffice.

If your business has more than one location, and you need to control performance, access and security you may be considering MPLS, VPN or even IPSec technologies.*

You can rely on our knowledge and experience in designing, deploying and managing these secure networks for you. Our largest VPN now serves over 2,000 locations and continues to expand.

MPLS = "Mutliprotocol Label Switching"

Is a component in high performance networks.

VPN = "Virtual Private Network"

A VPN uses public infrastructure to create a cost effective private and secure network.

IPSec = "Internet Protocol Security"

Provides security through authentication using cryptographic keys.
